Preserved by an experimental gas the blimp was using, they're revived five-hundred years later & taken to The Secret City, where they learn that the Earth is ruled by the despot Killer Kane.... The only chance for survival is to ask for an alliance with Saturn... But when they get there, they are captured along side Kane's men, and the leaders of Saturn take short banter at face value & decide to ally with Kane.... Buck has to get back to Earth in time to stop it..... Re-edited from the late 1930s Buck Rogers serials, they took four hours of shows & mashed 'em into this seventy minute matinee.... It leaves a few plot holes you could drive a truck through, but leaves in all the action sequences, so it never lags or gets dull....

The first thirty minutes is all about behind the scenes chaos, as the actress can't speak French... About thirty minutes in, the real drama unfolds, as a lesbian Costume Designer gets a crush on her, & the director has a nervous breakdown... A lot of hand-held wobbly cam trying to catch the panorama of the room, which gave me a headache while trying to read the subtitles.... To be honest with you, I've seen more than my fair share of "behind the scenes chaos" films at local film festivals, particularly at 48hr film festivals, and I couldn't stop thinking about that, even after some of the characters were fleshed out & rumors & gossip about them where revealed.....

The two get to bickering, and the announcer suggests we just watch the movie.... Role opening credits & the movie opens with midgets doing a musical number..... So anyway, Bat Haines - The Villain has been stealing cattle from the Lawsons & the Prestons while convincing them that one has been stealing from the other, and the sheriff is ion on it.... Bat later tries to rob a stagecoach, but Buck Lawson - The Hero saves the day, along with Nancy Preston.... Tex Preston & Pop Lawson try to keep the two apart, but they meet in secret.... Buck also starts to wise up to the sheriff's inability to catch criminals, & why bot his family & the Prestons are losing cattle... Employs pretty much every western cliché of the mid 1930s, but with midgets, with most of the gags being about midgets walking under tall things, climbing to reach high spaces & crawling into tight spaces, while pretending take it's self seriously, and a few goofy characters..... Still, it maintains a good pace......

After getting the boot everywhere it goes, the radio calls on an army of radios to invade the town & show the people better farming techniques, with a little Nazi propaganda telling people to buy radios..... Amusing.....

At the midmark, he finds an abandoned house & finds a calendar... He wants to see what July looks like, so he hides in a refrigerator... Busy night, just enough time for a cartoon short... Not bad...

Starts out saving a commuter plane from crashing, then gets in a fight with a pair of thugs carrying atomic dust... Meanwhile, a group of orphans steals the suitcase with the dust, and while Starman goes to get it back, the thugs kidnap one of the orphans.... Drags most of the way, but has a goofy brawl about fifty-five minutes in....

The evil brother of the leader (a cheap knock off or Darth vader, with a mask that look like he got it a a bondage shop) has raised an army & has returned from exile to steal a bioweapon & kill a female scientist (Corinne Cléry)..... Clery's gets a call from an Asian kid she's taking care of, who has psychic powers, who tells her to come home, so the bad guys miss her.... Meanwhile, somewhere in deep space, a pilot (Richard Kiel, with a beard) is stuck on an outdated ship that just blew it's navigation & communication systems... He sees the bad guy's ship & decides to follow it.... The bad guy gets back to his base, run by an evil queen (Barbara Bach), & give the bioweapon to a scientist, who captures the pilot & turns him into Richard Kiel, without a beard, who is now laser proof with super human strength..... They bad guys send him back to Earth, where he grabs guards & throws them around, but the Asian kid uses his psychic powers to turn him back into a good guy.... An awful lot is packed into this movie, so it never gets dull (for me at least)... The sets & miniatures are pretty impressive... Many references to Star Wars... Manages to stay pretty goofy...
